Heidi Lam

About

Heidi Lam is a research scientist at Tableau Software. Her research area is in information visualization and human-computer interaction. Her current focus is on understanding how visualization can be used to support data analysis, as well as finding new methodologies to achieve that understanding. A tool-builder at heart, Heidi hopes that such understanding can be applied to visualization tools to enable a wider set of people to better understand our complex and interesting world. Heidi earned her Ph.D. from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. Her Ph.D. work involves evaluations of multi-level visualization techniques at the perceptual and application levels. Findings from these studies were applied in a tool to analyze search-engine logs. Heidi has been a co-organizer of BELIV (Beyond Time and Errors: Novel Evaluation Methods for Visualization) since 2010. She has been on the program committee of the IEEE Symposium on Information Visualization since 2009.
